First Battle of Manassas
Too many have perished today. My husband is alright, but Colonol Johnston, Bee, and Bartow did not survive the Battle at Manassas. Even with these deaths, it shall still be considered a great victory for the South. What news it was to hear that those Yankees pulled back to their ground.

Too many have died today. But, as long as the Union refuses to let us live peaceably as our own nation, the only way this can resolve itself is for us to win the war.
ReplyDeleteA great victory? This just a drop in what will most likely be an ocean of blood. I do not understand how women can support a horrible cause founded by the South...
ReplyDeleteYou are correct about the number of perished. I have attended too many to count. From waking moment until the time I drop from exhaustion, I toil to save those soldiers. I dearly hope the Union pulls through. I do so dearly hope.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Chesnut, while I disagree with you because you support the rebels, I feel as though we can sympathize with one another because our husbands are both officials who have been given great responsibilities and who will help shape the outcome of this war.
